To support Active Ingredient Prescribing, you can change your labels and repeats to display the active ingredient as the main drug name. For more information about Active Ingredient Prescribing, please refer to PBS website - Active Ingredient Prescribing.
Display Active Ingredient on Labels
System Script Labels (ie. Amfac, Aquarius, Fred, LOTS) in Z Dispense have options which display the active ingredient (ie. Generic Description) of a drug instead of the Product/Brand name. However, if you do not use a system label as your Script Label, you can customise your current labels to show the Generic Description.
Select the Label
If you use System Script Labels for dispensing, (ie. Amfac, Aquarius, Fred, LOTS) you are able to select the pre-designed label options in Z Dispense.
This is a workstation setting, so you will need to ensure that any changes are applied to all dispensing terminals.
- Go to Z Dispense > Workstation
- In the Printing tab, go to Script Label
- Select the Generic option of the system label that you use. This design will put the active ingredient as the main drug name.
- Select the same label option for Multiple Pack option if you have this enabled
- For Alt and Additional Directions labels, you will need to customise your existing design in Z Office to display the active ingredient.
Create/Customise Labels
If you don't use a System Label or you need to customise your existing label designs to use the active ingredient name, go to Z Office.
- Go to Tools > Label Designer > Manage Labels
- Search for the Script label you use in Z Dispense, highlight it and select Copy to New from the left panel. This will duplicate the label design.
- Double-click it to open the Edit Label Details window
- You can rename the label by adding the word 'Generic' at the end to differentiate it from the original label. eg. Script Label Generic
- You should see a design where the Product Desc is the first title on the label
- Remove the Product Desc and Generic Name components by highlighting them and pressing Delete on your keyboard.
- Add the Generic Desc (which is the Active Ingredient component) and the Product Name components onto the label by dragging and dropping
You can arrange the Generic Description to appear at the top section of the main label and position the Product Name beneath it by repositioning the components.
To customise the font and sizing, highlight the component and adjust it using the Component Settings panel on the right. To make the Generic Desc the title, choose it to Left align and change the font to bold and size 10 by pressing Change Font. - Press to save the new generic label
- Go to Z Dispense > Workstation and select the Generic Label you just created:
Display Active Ingredient on Repeats
To use the Generic description of dispensed drugs on repeats:
- Go to Z Dispense > Store > Store Configuration
- Select the Other tab and tick Repeats - print generic description
- Press to save the changes
- The repeats will now use the generic description. An example of the repeat:
